Modern stomatology has completely abandoned the amalgam (black) dental fillings, and replaced them with either composite (white) fillings or ceramic inserts (inlay). There are many reasons for this, but one of the most important ones is the fact that amalgams contain mercury, which has proved to have an unfavourable effect on health and the environment. Scientists are examining the correlation between the presence of amalgam fillings in the oral cavity of a patient and many diseases, for example, Alzheimer\u2019s disease, Parkinson\u2019s, migraine, depression, malignant tumors, immune disorders, diseases of the nervous system, anemia and others. To prevent mercury poisoning, it is not enough to change the amalgam dental fillings, but it should be done very carefully in order to avoid additional mercury contamination during the procedure.
